Mamauchenia

On the windblown plains of Pleistocene Argentina, a female Great Arauchenia (Macrauchenia patachonica) pauses to feed her calf. The survival of her calf is not guaranteed, and he is indeed a greater disadvantage than most of his kind, for he was born leucistic. His mother must be extra protective, and he must be extra careful, if he wishes to make it to adulthood.

Another piece that looks better before the scanner; I might scan this again when I get home. Also tried to go with a windblown look on the fur, with the fluffy fur on the neck being blown aside, but I may change that a little bit too. Originally I wanted to show this alongside a rhea or some other modern South American animal, but I figured it'd be better to keep it solitary with the composition of this piece. Then I decided to include a calf, and as I started shading his fur, realized I wanted to make him unique, so he's now leucistic, based off white camels. And no, there's not a lot of evidence that Macrauchenia had a trunk.
