Big Ass Salamander

requested Andrias matthewi; I am actually working on an entire piece featuring the salamander, I am just trying to find some information of the flora of the area at the time. I thought a chart was necessary, however, to show just how large Andrias matthewi was. Some estimates place A. matthewi as actually being larger than modern giant salamanders, which reach 6ft; A. matthewi may have reached 7.5ft as depicted here. A. matthewi lived during the middle Miocene in Nebraska and Colorado. It likely would have fed on invertebrates, smaller amphibians, large fish, and perhaps even turtles and small mammals, which is seen in modern Chinese giant salamanders. Keep in mind, however, the chosen mammalian quarry of giant salamanders are water shrews, which are quite small. We don't need any art of A. matthewi going after camels and elephants. It deserves more paleoart, just not the false awesomebro method.
