Description
Eastern North America was no doubt rich with dinosaur species, but due to the geology of the area, fossils are rare. Only a few dinosaurs are named from the East, including Hypsibema. There were two species, H. crassicauda from North Carolina and H. missouriensis from Missouri, both from approx. 75MYA. The latter's remains were large enough that they were thought to belong to a sauropod, and H. missouriensis may just be a forgotten giant from the east of the continent. Estimates measure about 49ft long, making it one of the largest ornithischians, along with Edmontosaurus and Shantungosaurus.
Based on a Hadrosaurus skeletal from state.nj.us, another one of the rare dinosaurs from the East.
